All in a good cause
Each year we donate over £630,000 (over £1million including sponsorship) to worthwhile causes throughout our region. Our approach towards charitable giving has much in common with our approach to sponsorship, in so far as we believe we have a responsibility to play a part in our local communities. All our activity, whether in the form of giving time, expertise or money, is directed through Bruntwood or The Oglesby Charitable Trust.
The Oglesby Charitable Trust awards £500,000 each year and in 2006 proactively supported 45 local charities.
Bruntwood directly give over £130,000 to good causes each year throughout Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds. This money comes via fundraising events run by our local employees and involving our local customers and suppliers. This way we ensure our charitable activity becomes an integral part of our core business. (Read more about this using the navigation bars on this page.)
Less is more
Even with a financial charitable investment of this size each year we are very selective in who we support, believing that by directing our efforts at fewer causes we can make more of a difference.
Other than providing financial support we encourage our staff to donate their time and skills to worthwhile causes. Through our Bruntwood Cares Programme every one of our 348 employees is entitled to take two days each year to work in our local communities.
In 2006, our people participated in almost a dozen community projects including digging out a pond for Painswick Park and painting the Mary Seacole Community Centre in Trafford. Our activities go far beyond physical labour and through the Princess Trust we have helped mentor long term unemployed in a new business venture and helped the homeless back into the job market.
Many of our staff sit on a variety of management boards providing advice to bodies including The Bluecoat Arts Centre, Oldham Coliseum, Pro Manchester, CBI Regional Council, Cheethams School of Music and The Marketing Society. This includes a number of public private partnerships designed to align the development of entire districts within our cities.
