Chris Oglesby

Chris Oglesby

Chief Executive

Chris was born in Scunthorpe in 1967 and grew up in Manchester from the age of 4. He went to Cheadle Hulme School (where he is now a governor), then studied at The LSE and City University, London where he graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Property Valuation and Finance.

He worked in the investment team in the City of London Office of St Quintin (now CBRE), before returning north to work for Bruntwood in 1991. In 1993 he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor, set up the company’s Manchester City Centre office and it’s sales and marketing team. He was appointed a Director of the company in 1996 and Chief Executive at the end of 1999.

Bruntwood’s success is inextricably linked with the success of the cities in which in operates. Aligned with this, Chris has become an expert in Local Area Partnerships. He sits on the boards of CityCo (Manchester’s City Centre Management Company), The Piccadilly Partnership, City South (the area including the universities and hospitals), The Irwell City Park in Manchester and is currently working on establishing a group for the City’s Financial Core. In Liverpool and Leeds, he has taken best practice and worked with local Directors to get The Liverpool Commercial District and The West End Partnerships established.

He believes that great cities need great transport systems and was a founder member of United City; an alliance of positive businesses in support of Manchester’s Transport Innovation Fund Bid for a £3bn transport revolution, funded in part through a peak time only, retrospective congestion charge.

Chris is a founder member of Greater Manchester’s Business Leadership Council, a Board of Manchester private sector Chief Execs, established to advise the leaders of the Greater Manchester authorities.

He is a Trustee of The Oglesby Charitable Trust which works with more than 40 community based charities a year and is a board member of the charity Onside which aims to roll out exemplar youth centres across the North based on the successful Bolton Lads and Girls Club model.

A believer in continued personal development, Chris graduated from the PACE course at Manchester Business School in 1997. He was a member of The Academy of Chief Executives from 1998-2002 and has been a member of Young Presidents Organisation since 2000, holding several officer positions over the years including Chairman in 2007/8. For 3 years, he attended the OPM 36 (for owner manager CEOs) course at Harvard, graduated in 2007 and regularly meets with its international alumni. He is also a member of The British Council of Offices and regularly attends MIPIM.

High quality ground floor retail and leisure units are an important part of a successful office building and Chris part owns and is a Director of Heathcotes Restaurants, a collection of 15 restaurants which source the very best local produce.

Chris and his wife Jane were married in 1995 and have 3 children. They live at the family home; an organic small holding in Cheshire and stay in Manchester City Centre midweek. Away from Bruntwood and his other work interests, Chris likes to be active with his family outdoors: renovating their home, working on the farm and skiing off piste in the winter. He enjoys hill walking and climbed Mont Blanc for his 40th birthday. He ran the London Marathon in 1999, but nowadays is content cross country running with his dogs, and he cycles (most of the way) to work a couple of days a week.

Chris and Jane have a passion for good food and wine (they produce their own organic meat and vegetables) and love large meals with family and friends. With whatever spare time is left, they do not watch television but rather read and enjoy live entertainment: music, theatre and sport. Chris played rugby until his late 20s and now contents himself with watching Sale Sharks and England. As a Mancunian, Chris is, of course, a Manchester City fan.
