Providing the city with one of its largest receptions, the mall opening is another significant step forward in the redevelopment of City Tower and the Piccadilly area. Indeed, Bruntwood are now well progressed with their £87m investment and development of the building, which has helped secure 60,000 sq.ft of new lettings since acquisition.
During the last 2 years, Bruntwood have attracted new customers such as Accuma, Sheppard Robson, MVA Consulting and Marks & Spencer to the building, all of whom will now benefit from City Tower’s new front of house.
Bruntwood’s Development Director, Peter Crowther, commented “The opening of the mall is great news for our customers at City Tower, all of whom can now benefit from one of the most spectacular office receptions in Manchester. Not only this, the new mall provides yet another boost to Piccadilly’s reputation and occupiers such as Bank of New York, Accuma and Drivers Jonas locating here are testament to this.”
Historically a dark and narrow entrance, Bruntwood understood the importance of transforming City Tower’s access and providing its customers with a more appropriate reception. So, working with Manchester architects, Stephenson Bell, Bruntwood conceived a brand new reception mall, featuring triple height polished concrete walls, sleek black glass and limestone finish ceramic flooring, all at a cost of over £6m. The huge open space Bruntwood has now created is alleged to be large enough to accommodate 56 double decker buses!
As well as providing a brand new entrance for all of its customers and visitors, City Tower’s new mall also re-establishes a vital public link between China Town and Piccadilly Gardens and is expected to cater for over 3,000 visitors every day.
