On the 10th September 2007, north of England property company, Bruntwood Limited, officially opened their brand new bicycle track, “The Bruntwood Mile” at Lineham Farm, a children’s activity farm located in Eccup in Leeds.
The bicycle track forms part of their 2-year charitable commitment to the farm, during which time they have pledged to raise £24,000. The track itself is 1 mile long and enables the children to effectively use land owned by the farm that was previously unfit for use by bicycles, meaning the children were limited in where they could be taken cycling.
Now, the track that Bruntwood staff helped lay as part of their commitment is fully functional and ready for use. Lineham Farm manager, Stephen Hannaby commented, “The track is a fantastic addition to the farm and one which we’ve looking to do for a while now. Bruntwood’s contribution during the past 12 months has meant we could buy the necessary equipment to lay the track. Not only this, the hard work of their staff in actually building the track was invaluable and we’re all delighted with the results and the children love it.”
On the day of the opening, 20 children from Westwood Primary School in Middleton, Leeds, had just arrived for their week long stay and were on hand to test drive the track with some of the Bruntwood team.
Bruntwood’s director in Leeds, Richard Burgess, commented, “It’s great to see the fruits of our labour come to life in this way and seeing some of the children staying at Lineham Farm actually using and enjoying the track is very rewarding for everyone involved. The Bruntwood Leeds team has worked exceptionally hard during the past few months, not only in fundraising terms, but also in a physical sense to actually build the track. We’re very pleased with the results!”
Bruntwood have made a commitment to sponsor Lineham Farm to raise £16,000 over the next 2 years, as well as committing to 2 days of working contribution at the farm per employee. Fund raising for 2007 have included events such as a golf day for suppliers and customers, as well as a sponsored abseil down one of their tallest Leeds buildings.
