Bruntwood customers go over the edge for charity

On Saturday 18th August 2007, one of the North of England’s largest property companies, Bruntwood, gave its Leeds-based customers the chance to abseil down one of Leeds’ tallest buildings.

25 Bruntwood customers abseiled the 140ft drop, at Bruntwood’s Hepworth House, in order to raise sponsorship money for Lineham Farm, a children’s charity based in Eccup on the outskirts of Leeds. The event formed part of Bruntwood’s £24,000 sponsorship commitment, which focuses around the creation of a brand new, bicycle track at the farm.

Richard Burgess, regional director for Bruntwood, commented “we’ve pledged to raise money for Lineham Farm over the next two years and the abseil is one of many fundraising events we are holding, the next of which is our golf day in September. In order to get the best out of these initiatives, we feel it’s important to involve customers, suppliers and employees in these events, all of whom help make our charity commitments such a great success. As usual, our customers have been fantastic”.

Lineham Farm works with schools in the Leeds area to provide an experience of a lifetime for local deserving children. Each week, 24 children aged 8 to 12 visit Lineham Farm with their school for a residential break that includes the opportunity to experience country life alongside numerous outdoor pursuits.

Steve Hannaby, Lineham Farm centre manager, was there to see the brave Bruntwood customers take on the abseil challenge, commenting, “the abseil is a fantastic way to raise money for us. Being an activity farm, the event not only reflects the type of charity we are, but it also gives something back to the people who take part, something that’s incredibly important to remember during fund raising. We’re delighted it was a success and it takes Bruntwood closer to their great target.”

Through the fundraising efforts of the Bruntwood customers who took part the abseil raised over £2,000 for Lineham farm. Bruntwood also like to thank high access company SSD for their kind help in assisting in making the abseil as safe and enjoyable for everyone who took part.
