Work has started on the £4.3million refurbishment of St Hugh’s House in Bootle, by north of England property developer Bruntwood. The works signal the beginning of the area’s regeneration and the redevelopment of Bootle’s new office quarter. As the hoarding went up, Graham Haywood, chief executive at Sefton Council and Andy Wallis, planning and regeneration director, joined some of the Bruntwood team to celebrate.
Sefton council suggest that works such as St Hugh’s will transform Bootle’s office quarter, helping it become a much sought after business location. Andy Wallis commented, “Bruntwood have an excellent track record of delivering office buildings such as this, so we’re confident that the redevelopment of St Hugh’s will boost the areas regeneration and make a real impact on the new office quarter”.
David Guest Director of Bruntwood in Liverpool, was also there to see the works start, commenting, “We’ve seen demand for out of town quality office space grow in recent years, so feel it’s vital to be a part of the regeneration of Bootles office quarter. When the building’s complete at the beginning 2008 we’re committed to delivering some of the best office space this area has ever seen, not only this, but by providing small suites and flexible leases we hope to encourage smaller start up companies and entrepreneurs to come and do business in Bootle”.
It’s hoped St Hugh’s will work alongside initiatives such as SLEGI (Sefton and Liverpool Enterprise Growth Initiative) in attracting a new business base of start up companies and entrepreneurs to Bootle. SLEGI offers support packages to start up companies including, financial aid, mentoring, help with premises and business advice. Graham Haywood, chief executive at Sefton council commented, “We’re really excited by new office schemes such as St Hugh’s, as we hope they will help foster a new, vibrant and outward looking business community in and around Sefton”.
Local architects KKA are working with Bruntwood to create a new look for St Hugh’s. Improvements will include a new entrance and reception area with two new glass fronted retail units. Works on the new office quarter are now really underway, new paving, street furniture and planted trees have all been installed along Stanley Road in Bootle as part of the Councils Public Realm work and more than 10 new office, retail and residential developments are planned for the area.
